Introduction to Mindfulness
Let me draw you a picture.
An illustration of what you can achieve
Mindfulness is built on simplicity
All you need is inside you
All you have to do is just breathe
The only rule of mindfulness
Is that it takes place right now, right here
In the present time and space you occupy
To practice mindfulness you must
Let go of the baggage of yesterday.
Let go of the anxiety of tomorrow.
You can’t go back to change the past
You can’t stress about what is to come
Nobody can manipulate time or space
Neither one is in your control
The present. This moment. Right now.
It’s all yours to guide, direct and control
You see, the present is for action
There you learn, heal, grow, change, evolve
The magic happens within your body
With every breath you take in
And in every one you let out
The beauty happens in your mind
With mastery of every thought
You begin with awareness
Focus on yourself and what surrounds you
Engage your senses and take it all in
See, hear, smell, feel, touch, and taste
Nothing more, nothing less
And as you focus on your senses
You inhale and exhale the fresh air
And you will feel the start of awareness Mindful awareness drives reflection
Reflection is where all the work happens
Trust yourself with honest reflection
Your thoughts are your own
Nobody gets to tell you what to think
Acknowledge your thoughts and feelings
Do not censor them, do not judge
Be compassionate and kind with your voice
Be open and receptive and let it all flow
Don’t fear the negative feelings
Negative feelings will not harm you
Awareness strips them of power
Acceptance renders them silent
Forgiveness is the one that lets them go
Keep your focus and attention grounded
In the present and in the right now
Negativity fades away into darkness
Positivity welcomes you to the light
Your mind is open and ready
Your thoughts are now all your own
You decide the path and the journey
You choose the thoughts you carry
You navigate, you drive, you are in control.
Your thoughts are ready to command
They are empowered to help you move on
Through the practice of mindfulness
And mastering of your thoughts
You break the cycle of the used to be
And weave new patterns of what could be
The beauty of this lies in the simplicity
mindfulness offers you the opportunity
To be mindful is to choose your own path
Embracing it means making it happen
Living it means making it a part of you
Be strong. Be mindful. Be well. Mindfulness
